Prof. Dr. Elisabeth K. V. Kalko, Director of AntBaseNet passed away in Africa

Elisabeth Kalko, the head of the Institute of Experimental Ecology of the University of Ulm passed away on Monday, September 26th 2011 in Tanzania. Elisabeth’s sudden death was completely unexpected. The cause of her death is still unknown. We are deeply shaken and still cannot believe it.

Elisabeth was the director of www.antbase.net and responsible for the budget of our project. Due to her constant support during the past 10 years it was possible to establish the website in the present form.

We are grateful for all her help and will remember her as an outstanding researcher and ecologist, who was deeply dedicated to the study and conservation of the tropical biodiversity.
